Cancer: 5 Year Tests Update

A fortnight ago, on Sept 1, I had a positive mindset when in a blogpost I wrote the words, “When they (the medical tests) come back all clear, then I finally am considered cancer free. Your prayers are appreciated.”

Yesterday I had the appointment with my oncologist. She is such a lovely person! The bloodwork was good, the CT scan was “good” except for one thing….the radiologist noticed a spot on my liver.

Seminoma typically works its way through the retroperitoneal lymph nodes to the lungs…it rarely spreads to the liver before very late stage metastasis. With everything else seemingly clear in the retroperitoneum and lungs, it would be unlikely that it spread to the liver.

“Ok, now what?”

Being a cancer survivor, a spot on the liver is serious enough that I will be having more bloodwork and an MRI in the coming weeks.

Well, what could it be?

We don’t know and there is no point speculating. I admit to not sleeping well last night as my mind went through the various scenarios of what it could be. SO I opened the bible to where Jesus tells us, “Therefore do not worry about tomorrow, for tomorrow will worry about itself. Each day has enough trouble of its own.” As a person who has a history of depression and anxiety, I take comfort in knowing that the Lord provides all the needs of his creation, especially for his children. When those negative thoughts enter my head, I have to remember the words of the Apostle Paul in Philippians 4, where the Lord promises the peace of God:

Rejoice in the Lord always. I will say it again: Rejoice!  Let your gentleness be evident to all. The Lord is near.  Do not be anxious about anything, but in every situation, by prayer and petition, with thanksgiving, present your requests to God. And the peace of God, which transcends all understanding, will guard your hearts and your minds in Christ Jesus.

Right now, as I type this, my mindset is positive. I know the temptation to distress about unknowns may well arrive, so I will focus on the positive things in life, as Paul continues, “Finally, brothers and sisters, whatever is true, whatever is noble, whatever is right, whatever is pure, whatever is lovely, whatever is admirable—if anything is excellent or praiseworthy—think about such things.  Whatever you have learned or received or heard from me, or seen in me—put it into practice. And the God of peace will be with you.
