God Accepts You

romans-5-8-web-nlt1.jpgA meme I saw today said, “God accepts you just as you are…”

Lots of people liked it.

It sounds nice and heart warming…but it’s not true.

He doesn’t accept me just as I am. He loves me despite me. He loves me just as Jesus is. He loves you and accepts you in Jesus.

Romans 5:8, my life verse, says, “But God demonstrates his own love for us in this: While we were still sinners, Christ died for us.” In the greater context of redemptive history, and scripture, this means that we have failed and we continue to fail.

A lot.

And God’s justice demands that we pay for our sin.

But we can’t.

We continue to daily add to our debt…as we heap sin upon sin…

But God…

Loved us, despite us.

He sent his son to pay our debt.

So.

God does not accept you as you are.

But he bids you to come as you are.

In your sin and misery, to Jesus Christ, and lay it all upon him on the cross. Yes, come as you are, but he wont let you stay as you are. He will painfully strip you of your sin, as he makes you like his son. He will devote your life, to becoming more Christlike.

He accepts you in Jesus, so run to Jesus.

Run to Him, and don’t look back.
