How Can We Make Our Voices Heard?

There is such a range of emotion that I feel as I survey the landscape of the war ravaged land we inhabit. I am sure it is the same for most of you as well. As we look out our windows, into the killing fields surrounding us, we see not only death, but the organs of thousands of unborn children being harvested and sold to fund the liberal war machine as it steams ahead in the name of so called equality and tolerance, but it is only tolerant of it’s own, and steam rolls over everything else in its path.  Though abolition happened in 1865, we see greater numbers of our fellow human beings sold into slavery of the worst kind, as men, women and children are drugged and exploited to meet the ever increasing demands of our insatiable appetite for perversity in the form of pornography and prostitution. Morals decay, justice erodes, and the foundations of this world seemingly crumble before our eyes.

We want to scream,

we want to cry,

we want to laugh…

..we are not even sure any more what emotion we are feeling. Some of us simply turn off our computers and smartphones and look the other way. Others look for ways to make our voices heard in the midst of this morally bankrupt generation in which we live; others ask how we can spark a revival like that in the times of Jonathan Edwards, or George Whitefield, or reformation like in the times of Martin Luther.

So we turn to social media and post articles, state our cases, stand on our little soapboxes, post videos, verses and quotes…

And the killing continues.

And the slavery continues.

The moral decline continues.

And we lose heart, as the war seems hopeless, and we fear that our voices will not be heard above the noise. How can we make our voices heard? Do we yell louder? Do we hashtag everything in the hopes of hitting something that is trending? We do well to continue in the fight, but we also do well to remember that this battle will not be won in our own strength…or with our own voices.

It starts at home in our closets on our knees.

Before we do anything we must pray.

As we do it, we must pray.

Afterwards, we must pray.

And not a simple rote prayer like we so often say before dinner, but heartfelt longing in bitter anguish and tears, crying out for the saviour of our souls to come and pour His Spirit upon a lost generation. That the Lord of Hosts would so work in our own hearts a love for him and others, and a hatred for sin, and the desire to obey him in all things, and to find in him our everything…

It starts there.

Are you there?

Am I there?

Because if we are not there, then no amount of hash tags or memes or Facebook posts will make any difference. Our voices won’t be heard otherwise. We find our strength, our voice, in Him. Alone. We must start on our knees, we must obey him, we must delight in him…then…we must speak. Speak up!  Because you do have a voice, as tiny as it may seem, as faint as it may sound. And at that point it will not matter if your voice is heard, because He will hear and will perfect it.

Seek him. He is our strength, and he will strengthen your voice.

Let us pray.

Have you not known? Have you not heard? The LORD is the everlasting God, the Creator of the ends of the earth. He does not faint or grow weary; his understanding is unsearchable. He gives power to the faint, and to him who has no might he increases strength. Even youths shall faint and be weary,and young men shall fall exhausted; but they who wait for the LORD shall renew their strength; they shall mount up with wings like eagles; they shall run and not be weary; they shall walk and not faint.
