When Mother’s Day Causes Suffering

Mother’s Day. Perhaps some of you mom’s will get to sleep in tomorrow, and Dad will get the kids ready for church. If you are really lucky he may even bring you breakfast in bed – and wash the bedding after you spill your coffee…  But receiving honour is not what the day is really about.  It is about thanking God for the mother he gave you, and in turn honouring them.

So, tomorrow I will be honouring those women in my life who have the title of “Mother.”  It is good to remember them.  They are gifts from the Lord…but today, I remember and pray for those who long to be mothers, who pray fervently for the blessing of children, but have not received this gift.

Mother’s Day can be a a time of deep sorrow for those who do not have children. When Mother’s Day causes suffering, continue to petition our gracious Father for children to love, because children are good gifts.  The Bible tells us that very clearly…but don’t be disappointed in God if the answer is not what you desire. Perhaps He is using this sorrowful trial to draw you into closer communion with Him. Peter tells us that  trials come upon us so that the proven genuineness of our faith may result in praise, glory and honour when Jesus Christ is revealed. In Him we can find contentment, even in our grief, sorrow and affliction.  If you long to hold a child, and it hurts to the deepest part of your heart and soul…look to God, He longs to comfort you and hold you.  Look to his promises in the gospel.

Hope in Him, He is all satisfying.

Mothers Day

1 Peter 1:3-9  “Praise be to the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ! In his great mercy he has given us new birth into a living hope through the resurrection of Jesus Christ from the dead, and into an inheritance that can never perish, spoil or fade. This inheritance is kept in heaven for you, who through faith are shielded by God’s power until the coming of the salvation that is ready to be revealed in the last time. In all this you greatly rejoice, though now for a little while you may have had to suffer grief in all kinds of trials. These have come so that the proven genuineness of your faith—of greater worth than gold, which perishes even though refined by fire—may result in praise, glory and honor when Jesus Christ is revealed. Though you have not seen him, you love him; and even though you do not see him now, you believe in him and are filled with an inexpressible and glorious joy, for you are receiving the end result of your faith, the salvation of your souls.”
