Some Go to Church
While perusing the August 28, 1884 edition of the Flesherton Advance newspaper…I was doing research into a school shooting that took place in Markdale, Ontario for a term paper…
I came across this poem entitled “Some go to Church” by a Reverend J. S. Bouchiev that is still relevant 130 years later.
I can hear the pastor’s heart lament for his flock in this poem. It is a good question to ask ourselves…”Why do I go to church?” It makes me think of Psalm 100: “Shout for joy to the LORD, all the earth. Worship the LORD with gladness; come before him with joyful songs. Know that the LORD is God. It is he who made us, and we are his; we are his people, the sheep of his pasture. Enter his gates with thanksgiving and his courts with praise; give thanks to him and praise his name. For the LORD is good and his love endures forever; his faithfulness continues through all generations.”
