Would You Please Pray

praying-hand-blackWhen we pray we are proclaiming that we cannot do anything without Jesus Christ. In Prayer we turn away from ourselves and our own “strength”and instead turn to God in the confidence that He will provide. Prayer humbles us as needy, and exalts God as wealthy. There is much to pray for, so much supplication.  So much so that we cannot ever get it all in one day.  Tonight, I pray that the Holy Spirit would perfect my prayers and intercede on my behalf.  Today my prayers have felt weak.

Would you pray with me?

Tonight my prayers are specifically with the Arink family as Christina goes for surgery and the Davis family as Judy is still recovering from a 7 month battle in hospital and Megan is recovering from having a brain tumour removed.  Pray for healing for the three named, but also pray for comfort, strength and peace for the families.  Pray that God’s name would be praised, that his healing gospel would be proclaimed to the ends of the earth and that His will would be done in this world.

There is so much more to pray for, for the needy, for the sick, for those seeking jobs, for the lost who do not know the glorious riches found in Jesus Christ, for the many struggling in marriages…I know many more who require supplication.  If you are reading this, please take a moment and humble yourself before the throne of grace to worship the one true king.

Here is the “Valley Of Vision,” an old Puritan prayer that is really speaking to me right now.

Lord, high and holy, meek and lowly,
Thou has brought me to the valley of vision,
where I live in the depths but see thee in the heights;
hemmed in by mountains of sin I behold
Thy glory.

Let me learn by paradox
that the way down is the way up,
that to be low is to be high,
that the broken heart is the healed heart,
that the contrite spirit is the rejoicing spirit,
that the repenting soul is the victorious soul,
that to have nothing is to possess all,
that to bear the cross is to wear the crown,
that to give is to receive,
that the valley is the place of vision.

Lord, in the daytime stars can be seen from deepest wells,
deepest wells,
and the deeper the wells the brighter
Thy stars shine;

Let me find Thy light in my darkness,
Thy life in my death,
Thy joy in my sorrow,
Thy grace in my sin,
Thy riches in my poverty
Thy glory in my valley.
