Exposure of Sexual Sin: 2 – It Is About the Holiness of God.

If you are a Christian who has been caught in sexual sin;

if your affair has become public;

if your pornography use has been exposed,

if your sexual perversion is revealed,

… repent and turn to Christ in faith.

Admit your faults and seek restoration. And don’t make the mistake of simply attempting to change your behaviour. Perhaps you are disgusted with yourself, or perhaps you regret being caught or are distressed over the consequences of your sin. No feelings will ever bring about true conviction or repentance. True conviction is about the Holiness of God.  True conviction about your sin is an unshakable grief over offending a holy God.  Let me say that again…

True conviction over sin is an unshakable grief over offending a holy God.

It is not about feeling bad for hurting your wife, or ruining your reputation, or looking bad, or losing your job, or letting the church down, or your kids, or going to jail or anything else. It is about the holiness of God.

True conviction leads to true repentance which is a turning from sin to Jesus Christ in faith and trusting in his atoning sacrifice and relying on the sanctifying work of the Holy Spirit to change your heart and your behaviours. True repentance leads to bearing fruit. False conviction is nothing more than regret or remorse and it only leads to a false repentance which is an abomination to a holy God. Regret may mean a temporary change in behavior without a real heart change.

I hate myself…

I can change…

I can do it myself…

No.

You can’t.

You might make a good show for a while…”White knuckle it,” so to speak…but only God can change your heart.

And a change of heart is vital for putting sexual sin to death. Ephesians 5:5 tells us:

For you may be sure of this, that everyone who is sexually immoral or impure, or who is covetous (that is, an idolater), has no inheritance in the kingdom of Christ and God.

There is no room for error when it comes to dealing with sexual sin. You can’t play with it.  Whether it is pornography or fornication or adultery or homosexuality or whatever. Do not merely wish to change or plan to change or try to change yourself.  Our hearts are, as Jeremiah 17:9 says, “Deceitful above all things and desperately sick” so our hearts must change, they have to change. As believers we must take extreme measures in putting to death all sexual sin. Colossians 3:5 says:

Put to death therefore what is earthly in you: sexual immorality, impurity, passion, evil desire, and covetousness, which is idolatry.

So fall on Christ.

Turn to the Cross.
