“How come you have the same name as God?”

“How come you have the same name as God?”

My little girl asked me as I tucked her in after saying her prayers with her.

“What do you mean?” I asked.

“Well, you call God Father, and you are my father.  I have two daddies.”

At that moment something I often take for granted became very real to me…God is sharing that title with me…

Father.  

And…

oh wow…

My daughter is watching me as a Father!

Does God realize the kind of pressure He just put on me?  On all of us dads?

I really hope that my daughter knows that her Heavenly Father is a better daddy than I am!

Dads, when God shares this title with us, it is a sacred matter that we must take very seriously.  It’s true that we are never going to live up to the standard that our Heavenly Father has set for us….but we should strive to that love.

Guys, take heart.

I fail at this as well…often

..at this father and husband thing.

But there is a Husband who gave himself up for our holiness. A Brother who is always with us. Someone who bore our sins in his body on the tree and that includes all of our fatherly failures, all of our daddy missteps.

So don’t mope.

Don’t get frustrated with yourself every time you fail.

We can look to Jesus in hope.

In Jesus we become the dads we’re called to be now.

The righteous who walks in his integrity— blessed are his children after him! ~Proverbs 20:7
