A Celebrity Moment…kinda

A Christian Celebrity blogger. How can this even be a “thing” when one is just a blogger? Ok I mean Tim Challies from Challlies Dot Com and Kevin Deyoung from the Gospel Coalition are Christian celebrity bloggers, they have large followings…but they are also pastors and writers and speak at international conventions …anyway. So I ended up talking to this young guy at work. He is from a Mennonite Brethren church the next town over from me and is a student at the university I work at.

It turns out he is quite heavily involved in outreach and evangelism, which is a passion of mine. After chatting with him for a while and having a good discussion I told him that I had a blog website he could check out, since I had to get back to work. I said, “It is called ‘One Christian Dad,’ just Google it.” His, expression kind of changed and he looked at me with a kind of wonder…”YOU?.. Are One Christian Dad?”…”I read your article on abortion…” and then it happened…That moment where you think (while holding a pipe wrench and a pair of pliers, wearing a maintenance uniform covered in a bit of grease from the mechanical room…) “Wow, this guy has read my blog.” Now, I have to clarify that I did not let it go to my head, in fact I was shocked to say the least, and to be honest I think he was as well. I had my celebrity moment, I say that tongue in cheek, and I think he was a little taken aback that ‘One Christian Dad’ is a lowly maintenance worker at his school.

What did I do? Well, I continued to talk with this young man, even though I was on the clock (sorry boss if you read this) for about 5 minutes about evangelism and our roles in God’s sovereign plan. (Do not start talking about these things if you have plans, because I will talk forever.) So while I appreciate that people recognize this blog, I have to say that God is central. Christ is Central. Not me, not you. Nothing else matters. My talent for writing (if it can be called that), is given by God to me, to use as His steward to his glory and for the upbuilding of the church. I hope and pray that I have done this, and I pray that through this little blog that God would be glorified.

Do nothing out of selfish ambition or vain conceit. Rather, in humility value others above yourselves, 4 not looking to your own interests but each of you to the interests of the others.
5 In your relationships with one another, have the same mindset as Christ Jesus:
6 Who, being in very nature[a] God,
did not consider equality with God something to be used to his own advantage;
7 rather, he made himself nothing
by taking the very nature[b] of a servant,
being made in human likeness.
8 And being found in appearance as a man,
he humbled himself
by becoming obedient to death—
even death on a cross!
9 Therefore God exalted him to the highest place
and gave him the name that is above every name,
10 that at the name of Jesus every knee should bow,
in heaven and on earth and under the earth,
11 and every tongue acknowledge that Jesus Christ is Lord,
to the glory of God the Father.
