Sacrificing Our Sons and Daughters to Demons

“How can you justify the use of graphic pictures in your prolife stance?”

I could direct this query to the CCBR where they do a wonderful job explaining why we use these pictures…but today I am going to show why I use them with the Bible.

Psalm 106:32-43 (ESV)

32 They angered him at the waters of Meribah,
and it went ill with Moses on their account,
33 for they made his spirit bitter,[c]
and he spoke rashly with his lips.

34 They did not destroy the peoples,
as the Lord commanded them,
35 but they mixed with the nations
and learned to do as they did.
36 They served their idols,
which became a snare to them.
37 They sacrificed their sons
and their daughters to the demons;
38 they poured out innocent blood,
the blood of their sons and daughters,
whom they sacrificed to the idols of Canaan,
and the land was polluted with blood.
39 Thus they became unclean by their acts,
and played the whore in their deeds.

40 Then the anger of the Lord was kindled against his people,
and he abhorred his heritage;
41 he gave them into the hand of the nations,
so that those who hated them ruled over them.
42 Their enemies oppressed them,
and they were brought into subjection under their power.
43 Many times he delivered them,
but they were rebellious in their purposes
and were brought low through their iniquity.

ImageThis is brutal.  Raw.  Honest. The psalmist stops and faces child sacrifice as it is. And just as the psalmist looked child sacrifice full in the face at all its gory detail, we need to do the same with abortion. We need to stop and see the pictures and read the facts, we need to look at abortion full in the face. If you are so inclined please go to go to endthekilling.ca. We need to hear the statistics of 100,000 babies killed by abortion every year in Canada, a country with no abortion legislation where abortion is legal at any point of a pregnancy and for any reason. Canada is a country where the Canadian Medical Association has sided with the pro-aborts denying any rights to the preborn child by voting to support the wording of our Criminal Code which states that a baby becomes a “human being” only after being born. We need to know what procedures are used by doctors to kill the children.  We need to see the gory pictures that the people in the Canadian Center for Bioethical reform have given to us.   We need people to do choice chains to make us aware of what is going on around us while we are sleeping in our own comfortable existences.

Psalm 106 is as real and disturbing as it can be.  The psalmist did not have the option to show lifelike images of the horrific details like we have today.  He did not have access to the internet where he could post videos or slideshows of the aftermath of child sacrifice.  The point I am trying to make is very simple, very profound: There are some sins that cannot be fully grasped without hearing the sharp words or seeing the brutal pictures.  We won’t be made to watch a doctor tear a little baby to pieces, but if all of us had to watch, perhaps then abortion would be deemed unthinkable, perhaps it would finally be deemed – murder.  Imagine if a toddler had his legs torn off, then his arms, and then had his skull crushed, and was finally sucked up with a shop vac.  The murderer would go away for life.  So I applaud the efforts of the CCBR in Canada and CBR in the USA who are doing everything they can to bring to light what abortion really is.

Let’s go back to the psalm.  We can make comparisons between the child sacrifice of psalm 106 and abortion of today.

We read that “They sacrificed their sons and their daughters.” Let us define sacrifice. Simply put, sacrifice means that you give up something good in the hope of getting something better. We have all heard of the virgin sacrifice to appease the gods.  In this case, one person died so the gods would not wipe out the village. Abortion is not done to appease a “god” in this culture. But it is done to gain something that is deemed “better” than the baby. Perhaps it is a life of no responsibility.  Perhaps it is no backlash from parents or family and friends for having an unwanted child.  Perhaps it means more money because mom can work instead of taking care of a baby.  Perhaps it is fear of a hard life with a child who has special needs…sacrifice the life of the child and your life will be easier. Abortion is really just the life of a child being sacrificed for something that the parent(s) deem to be better than the life of the child.

The psalmist says that these children are sacrificed to demons and to idols.  “They sacrificed their sons and their daughters to the demons; they poured out innocent blood, the blood of their sons and daughters, whom they sacrificed to the idols of Canaan.”

Abortion is a sacrifice of our sons and daughters to demons. Someday the world will see abortion for what it really is. And like the enslavement of men and women in America, we will one day all be appalled at even the thought.  We will look back in amazement at the sins of our fathers that this horror could have endured for so long, approved by the state and ignored by the church.

As Christians we should not be ignorant of abortion. We should know the arguments and the stats, but the strength to stand up and make a difference against abortion does not come from knowing the arguments or the raw statistics, or scientific facts, or having the graphic images of abortion.  No, for us as Christians the strength to stand up against this sacrifice of our children to demons comes from Christ.

“Nevertheless he looked upon their distress, when he heard their cry. For their sake he remembered his covenant, and relented according to the abundance of his steadfast love.”

This is what Jesus accomplished for all who will believe.  Do believe in the one true sacrifice of Jesus?  Do you know what he accomplished on the cross for you? If you do will you join me and other Christians in standing against the horror of abortion? I hope and pray that the dreadfulness of abortion will be real to you. I pray that the glory of God’s grace will move you to take a stand, either in action by participating in choice chains, or in letter writing, or by donations.  Will you pray with me, and the psalmist:

Give justice to the weak and the fatherless; maintain the rights of the afflicted and the destitute. Rescue the weak and the needy; deliver them from the hand of the wicked. Psalm 82

  1. Amen.
You’re right about seeing sin as it is with all it’s horrors.
When virtue is abandoned, and freedom is our only value, we become slaves to self.

  2. These unborn babies are not considered such because the pro-abortionists have seemingly done a good job of convincing so many that ‘they’ are just tissue and therefore it makes it easier to do the unthinkable. You are so right that if people were made to watch and there is such a film ‘The Silent Cry’ I think it’s called….then many people might change their mind about the chile being only ’tissue’…Diane
