Is Your Bible Falling Apart? Or are you?

I had a bible that looked much like this one. My Mom and my wife can both attest to that. It was marked up, falling apart, I mused over it, I meditated on it, and I was right with God.  I questioned things, I loved Christ, I was devoted, and my Bible was falling apart.  Then something happened.  I do not know exactly what happened, but I lost my love of reading the Bible, for the things of God.  I turned my back on Him and he let me do what I wanted.  It may have been around the time my dad was diagnosed with cancer.  Instead of reading and meditating, I partied, I turned to the bottle, I started smoking heavy…it makes no sense to me now.  I am not sure if this is the “reason”  but something happened.

So what happened to that Bible? I threw it out.  Why?  No Idea.  I wish I still had it.  But it is really symbolic to me.  I devoured His word, then threw it out. It parallels my life.

What about you?  When your dad or mom develops cancer what do you do?  When suffering befalls you what is it that will fall apart?  Your Bible?  Or you?

If you have the bible on kindle, well then so be it 🙂 I would caution against bible online tho…you can be distracted easily by messages, or sports or games.  Take your bible (the book or the kindle) and be alone with it!

Take a lesson from me.  I fell apart, instead of my bible… and it almost ruined me.  I thank God every day that he restored my faith and brought me back to repentance.  My “new” Bible is not yet falling apart, the cover is falling off, and there are a few markings in it, but it will get there.  By God’s grace I won’t fall apart again…but my Bible will.

What about you?

Psalm 1

Blessed is the one
who does not walk in step with the wicked
or stand in the way that sinners take
or sit in the company of mockers,
but whose delight is in the law of the Lord,
and who meditates on his law day and night.
That person is like a tree planted by streams of water,
which yields its fruit in season
and whose leaf does not wither—
whatever they do prospers.

Not so the wicked!
They are like chaff
that the wind blows away.
Therefore the wicked will not stand in the judgment,
nor sinners in the assembly of the righteous.

For the Lord watches over the way of the righteous,
but the way of the wicked leads to destruction.
