Shining Through the Cracks

The sun is shining today in the Fraser Valley.  My mood and the moods of those around me are much improved.  It is amazing what a little sunlight can do. Even though I sit in an office with no window where I can’t really see direct sunlight, the sun light still permeates the office, light bounces off the walls and desks – there is a kind of brightness, if you catch my drift.  Everything just seems brighter even out of the direct light.

If you read my post “Do You Suffer?” you will have read a bit about my suffering in my life.  I admit compared to some people I have had it relatively easy.  But compared to some others I have been through temporal anguish – that is my polite way of saying hell on earth.

Anyway throughout the peaks and valleys of my life, I have come to realize that through the cracks and around the walls the light of God shines. Much like the sun which is permeating the office as I write this.  (Yes I am on lunch break.)

For example, had I not been scared when my dad walked out on the family when I was younger, I could not stand here and claim to know the peace which passes all understanding. Had I not turned my back on God and his promises when I was younger, I would not be able to stand here and testify to the faithfulness and grace of our heavenly Father.  I am not condoning turning your back on God I am just saying that His light shines around the walls – even those walls which we build.  His light shines through all the cracks in our life.

Even in the hard times in your life His light still shines. It’s those times when we are as deep in the valley as we can be – rock bottom if you will – that is when it is God testing us, leading and guiding us.  Even if we can’t see the light, or see Him carrying us, His light is still there, shining through the cracks in the cloud, bouncing of the walls.

Without the bad times in my life I would not really comprehend the healing, comfort, grace, mercy, love and restoration of God through Jesus.  Let me clarify – I do not ask for bad days.  I don’t want to be walking in the valley, I don’t like those times at all. However, if and when I end up in another valley, I will just look up to the hills and pray that I can see the light, and know that I am not alone.

Do not be anxious about anything, but in everything by prayer and supplication with thanksgiving let your requests be made known to God. And the peace of God, which surpasses all understanding, will guard your hearts and your minds in Christ Jesus.  Philippians 4:6–7

I often think of a David or a Peter here.

David – a man after God’s heart – had his valleys or chasms, from which he had to be rescued, lifted out, so that he could write also the Psalms of praise – mercy and goodness.

Peter – I see him walking on the water, sinking away into the depths, but then there is that outstretched hand. And he receives the strength to grasp it and be pulled to safety.

Peter – who denied him three times – but who also heard the crow call out – “and he wept!”

Thank you for your comment Leonard. I Agree, those men are perfect examples. Glory to God for his grace in and through our saviour Jesus Christ! We are never beyond hope because of His sacrifice!
